The Women University of AJ&K Bagh was established in 2014 under the Women University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir Bagh Act (VII) of 2014, aiming to provide quality higher education and research opportunities for women in the region. As the only female university in the state, it currently encompasses the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, with a total of 14 departments. On June 3, 2020, Professor (Meritorious) Dr. Abdul Hamid assumed the role of the university's second tenured Vice Chancellor. Despite facing challenges due to the lack of permanent buildings caused by land unavailability, the university has enrolled over 5,000 students in 36 undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate degree programs. The institution has enhanced its resources by adding a variety of up-to-date books, a video conference room, a seminar hall, science and computer science labs, and state-of-the-art furniture and scientific equipment in classrooms to facilitate a smooth learning process. The acquisition of land for the university is currently underway. The Government of AJ&K has allocated 2025 kanals of land at District Headquarters Bagh for the construction of the university. At present, the university operates from five different locations within a one-kilometer radius.
